During my “artist-residency-at-home” month, I have spent hours (days, really) clarifying this project‘s purpose and determining the best course of action to raise awareness and continue the fundraising process in a way that is true to the heart of the project.
The 13/13/13 Sketchbook Project is not solely about me or my edification — it is about giving artists, creative thinkers, and, really, anyone an opportunity to learn more about how visual art can be used to revitalize communities.
In the end, the purpose of the 13/13/13 Sketchbook Project resides in the content of the products (sketchbooks, interviews, photographs) as they are released — not the author behind them.
With that said, donations will still be happily accepted, but I am not going to risk being even minimally perceived as guilting friends, family, and local organizations (who are already over-stretched, over-asked, and under-appreciated) into hand-outs for myself.
I have instead decided to offer opportunities for people to get to know the project without a “ticket” or “suggested donation”. If you feel led to give, great! But mostly, I just want you (and everyone you know) to know that the project is happening, to know why it is happening, and to know how you can participate in and enjoy it if you so choose.
Want to learn more?
To jumpstart the project’s discussions before I even leave the country, I will be offering FREE “Dinner Dates” for local groups of artists and creative thinkers. If you want me to come cook dinner for you and 5 friends at your home (or mine if you don’t want to have to vacuum and dust), click here to see which dates are still available!
